Alan is multidisciplinary by default. An engineer turned to business and later design, with a mindset for innovation and a passion for education. Alan obtained a PhD because he knew that it would allow him to teach again, and help young students figure out their way through the system that focuses on them adapting to the system instead of the system adapting to them.
Currently, he is an associate and lecturer at ETH Zürich, a business angel, and sits on the board of various start-ups. He has successfully managed the intersection between academic rigor, corporate opportunities, and entrepreneurial energy for the past ten years in order to help deliver cutting-edge new products, services, and research globally. Working across industries for companies such as Allianz, UBS, Swiss Re, Clariant, PMI, Siemens, Google, KTM, Roche, etc., Alan has built a global network of innovators and friends.
His previous professional experience includes positions such as General Manager at Adjoint (blockchain fintech), Regional Innovation Manager for Allianz (corporate insurance), and Team Design Lead for ABB. Alan holds a PhD from the Swiss Institute of Technology on Strategic Innovation, and has been a Visiting Researcher at Stanford’s d.school. He also holds an M.Sc. in Management from the Swiss Institute of Technology, and a Dip.Eng. in Mechatronics from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
His primary skill is identifying, connecting and supporting the most visionary and talented individuals towards the right opportunities at (mostly) the right time.
